Congratulations to my students who received ORMTA awards for 2020-21.
Here are a few performances from our recent Zoom recital.
A little about myself.
I have been playing the piano for most of my life and teaching for quite a few years. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (ARCT in Piano Performance) and the Royal Canadian College of Organists (ARCCO). I belong to the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association and am currently President of the Cambridge chapter. I was the Director of Music at Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church where I played the organ and piano and directed the choir. I have accompanied various groups and individuals, including the Burlington Choral Society, the Cambridge Girls Choir and the students at Heritage College in Cambridge.
What about exams?
After two to three years of piano study you may want to enroll in a piano examination with either the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada. For many students taking exams can be a great motivator and provide valuable experience and feedback, as well as a sense of accomplishment. But it can be an intimidating experience, so I ensure that my students are well prepared and know what to expect from the process. My students have successfully completed exams from Grade 1 to Grade 10. I encourage students to take exams, although they are not mandatory.
What if I just want to play for enjoyment?
I hope that all of my students play for enjoyment! No matter what style of music you are interested in I will help you learn the basics of piano technique, music theory and musicianship. I encourage all of my students to learn some classical music because it provides a solid foundation of technical ability which will enable you to play any style.
Do you teach Harmony?
